Happy 4th of July. 🎆
Today we celebrate freedom — and I want to talk about a kind of freedom that doesn't always make the parade: the freedom that comes from knowing your rights as a homeowner.
Because right now, on this same holiday weekend, there are families here on Oʻahu sitting with a stack of unopened mail. A notice they don't understand. A missed payment they're ashamed of. A fear so heavy it's keeping them from asking for help.
And the saddest part? Most of them have more options than they realize. They just don't know it yet.
Most homeowners who lose their homes in Hawaiʻi don't lose them because there were no options. They lose them because no one told them what the options were — and fear kept them from asking.
That's what I think about on Independence Day. Not just freedom from something, but freedom to make a real, informed decision about your home and your ʻohana's future. That freedom starts with knowing what you're actually facing.
If you or someone you know is behind on mortgage payments, facing a foreclosure notice, or dealing with a tax or HOA lien — here are a few things worth knowing this Independence Day:
This is what I believe: Every Oʻahu homeowner deserves to understand their situation clearly before making any decision. Not after the sale. Not after the auction. Now — while options are still on the table.
I started doing this work because I watched families lose homes they didn't have to lose. Not because there were no options — but because they were scared, isolated, and didn't know where to turn.
Independence Day feels like the right day to say this out loud: knowledge is power, and you deserve both.
If you're carrying this kind of weight right now — or if you know someone who is — please reach out. A conversation costs nothing. What you learn from it might change everything. 🤙
